Materials/Resources: Tapes American culture website Africa America video Dance in America Color pens/pencils Drawing paper Writing paper Cultural items Worksheet Description of activities: Specific culture in-depth study · I will tape squares represent elements of culture on the floor. · They are Language, Arts and Literature, Religion, American Food, Sports, and American Holidays · Students will bring their cultural elements. · Students will hold these items in hands, and looking for the right squares to put those items in. · I will show element of American culture website. · I will explain each element of culture. Check with students the items in the squares. · I will ask them how do they think each item is put in the right place. · If some of the items are not in the right place. I will ask some students to take out the item and put into the right place. · If they cannot figure out at the moment, I will let them put these items aside. And we will come back to put those items in the right squares after I taught them all element of United States’ culture. Assessment: 1. · I will assign 3 students as a group to fill out the “elements of American culture” sheet. · I will list lots of cultural items and customs on the sheet. And students will identify them and put them into the right category. 2. · I will ask them to pick 3 cultural items from different categories. One item is which they brought. · They will write or draw a story to about these items and the “New Friend” they made. |
